Through the looking-glass
Title: Through the looking-glass, 14"x 18" oil on canvas

I enjoy doing potraits and had been wanting to get back to it for some time now. So I was thrilled when my sis shared a picture that she came across. One look at these little devils and my hands were itching to get them on my canvas. Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland might have been inspired by a moment like this I think :). For me too, it turned out as much fun as I thought.
Here's a close up of the peeping toms:

Sur
Title: Sur, 10"x 12" oil on canvas
Status : SOLD :-)
My only regret with this piece of work is that I picked a small canvas size - only a large one can do justice to this elegant-of-all instruments also called 'the Sitar'. With every brush stroke, I have only fallen more and more in love with this beauty. And I would be more surprised than anyone if I don't pick up a larger canvas for another artwork starring Sitar - pretty soon ;-)

I took music lessons for a month during my summer break while stationed at Mhow. That's where & how I was introduced to the tabla. It didn't take me long to appreciate the beauty of this instrument - and I doubt if listening to music was ever the same again. As I finished this artwork, I couldn't help but think of Mhow - a place that will always hold dear. It's here that I made my first painting under the supervision of a street artiste. The tabla always reminds of those good times, some new sounds and hopefully a musical 'ear'. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :-)

This is my first painting under direct supervision of a street artiste in Mhow (MP, India). My formal training of two weeks started with a poster version of it. The original was created by Raja Ravi Verma - a fact I discovered many years later. And as it turned out, now he's one of my favourite painters.
